ASEAN International Film Festival (AIFFA) 2013 Winners: Bugoy Cariño, Alessandra De Rossi Bag Top Acting Plums

The first ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards (AIFFA) was held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia from March 28-30. The awards night happened at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching where the Philippines emerged as big winner, clinching four awards out of seven nominations.

Alessandra De Rossi was hailed as Best Actress for her performance in the film Sta. Niña which eventually won as Best Picture in the drama category. Anita Linda's performance in the said film also earned her the Best Supporting Actress award. Coco Martin and the film's director Manny Palo were nominated for Best Actor and Best Director, respectively.

Meanwhile, Bugoy Cariño won Best Supporting Actor for the film Alagwa where Jericho Rosales is nominated for Best Actor. The other Pinoy film nominated was Mga Kidnapper Ni Ronnie Lazaro which lost to Malaysia's Istanbul Aku Datang for Best Picture (Comedy).

Best Directorial Photography:

Anita Linda, "Sta. Niña" (Philippines)

Best Actor:
Shaheizy Sam, "Songlap" (Malaysia)

Best Actress:
Alessandra de Rossi, "Sta. Niña" (Philippines)

Best Picture (Comedy):
"Istanbul Aku Datang" (Malaysia)

Best Picture (Drama):
"Sta.Niña" (Philippines)
Best Picture (Action):
"Songlap" (Malaysia)

Special Honour Award: 
"Hanyut" (Malaysia)

Special Jury Award:
"Kayan Beauties" (Myanmar),"Rectoverso" (Indonesia), "Ada Apa Dengan Rina" (Brunei), and Taxi! Taxi! (Singapore)

 Best Director:
Riri Riza, "Atambua 39 Degrees Celsius" (Indonesia)

AIFFA Lifetime Achievement Award:
Michelle Yeoh

Inaugural ASEAN Spirit Award:
"Cinta Tapi Beda" (Indonesia)

Best Student Short Film:
"Fate of Mountain" (Malaysia)

Best Professional Short Film:
"Ren Shaon" (Singapore)

More than 100 films from Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, USA, India, Russia, and Australia participated in AIFFA, the next edition of which will be held in 2015.

John Lapus is Back as Kapamilya; Coco Martin's Sta. Niña Wins at Kerala Film Festival

Award-winning actor/comedian John "Sweet" Lapus is back to the Kapamilya network after six years with GMA-7. Sweet's last project with the Kapuso network was the primetime series Makapiling Kang Muli topbilled by Richard Gutierrez and Carla Abellana.

As a returning Kapamilya, John Lapus will be part of the upcoming ABS-CBN teleserye Kahit Konting Pagtingin  which will be topbilled by Sam Milby, Paulo Avelino and Angeline Quinto.

Cinemalaya movie Sta. Niña, starring Coco Martin won the The Golden Crow Pheasant Award at the 17th edition of International Film Festival of Kerala, beating 13 other films. The award known as the Suvarna Chakoram comes with a cash prize of 15 lakhs (approximately $30,000 US dollars). The awarding ceremony was held on December 14 in India.

The Filipino gothic melodrama, directed by Manny Palo, also stars Alessandra De Rossi, Angel Aquino and Ms. Anita Linda. It was distributed by Star Cinema.

The Mistress Grosses P231-M, Aga and Regine's Of All the Things Rakes P14.5-M on First 5 Days - Box Office Mojo

Star Cinema's The Mistress starring John Loyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo had now a total 3-week gross of P231 million according to Box Office Mojo (BOM). The film is now Direk Olive and John Lloyd and Bea's highest-grossing film to date, which according to Star Cinema had already grossed P300 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, Aga Muhlach and Regine Velasquez's reunion movie, Of All The Things  grossed P14.5 million on its first 5 days, a figure which was way lower than their films together which made Regine a box office queen.

Other Pinoy films which include Coco Martin's Cinemalaya movie, Sta. Niña and Regal Films' Pridyider starring Andi Eigenmann and JM de Guzman raked in P0.33 million (5 days) and P4.88 million (2 weeks) respectively.
