'Si Ser Chief, Si Maya at ang Teleserye' Airs June 16 on ABS-CBN | Cheche Lazaro Presents

Posted on June 14, 2013 | 11:47 PM

Broadcast journalist Cheche Lazaro looks into the enduring fondness of Filipinos for television drama series or teleseryes then and now in another special episode of the documentary “Cheche Lazaro Presents” titled “Si Ser Chief, Si Maya at Ang Teleserye” that airs this Sunday (June 16).

Cheche Lazaro Presents: 'Si Ser Chief, Si Maya at ang Teleserye'

One of the teleseryes that has captured the hearts of viewers is “Be Careful With My Heart.” The series, whose story revolves around a widower and businessman “Richard Lim” or “Ser Chief” and nanny-turned-flight attendant Maya dela Rosa (Jodi Sta. Maria), remains a top-rater since it premiered in July 2012. Ser Chief and Maya’s love story and charming chemistry have captivated audiences, while scenes of the kilig-serye have consistently trended on social media.

“Be Careful With My Heart” has changed the habits of viewers in the country and has also touched viewers abroad through The Filipino Channel. The show’s appeal cuts across ages, gender, social classes and race. In fact, Malaysia’s first commercial TV station, TV 3 has reportedly expressed a strong interest in acquiring the series.

But before “Be Careful With My Heart,” other Kapamilya programs have already made a buzz in the international scene, particulary in Malaysia where “Magkaribal,” “Prinsesa ng Banyera,” “Dahil May Isang Ikaw,” “Impostor,” “Imortal,” “Budoy,” “Iisa Pa Lamang,” and “Mara Clara” have been aired. Kristine Hermosa and Jericho Rosales’ “Pangako Sa’yo,” meanwhile, became a hit in Cambodia.

Aside from Malaysia and Cambodia, some Kapamilya teleseryes were also aired in other Asian countries such as Brunei, Myanmar, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, Korea at Taiwan.

What is it with teleseryes that keeps viewers glued? What do these programs reflect about the entertainment industry and society as a whole?

Don’t miss “Cheche Lazaro Presents: Si Ser Chief, Si Maya at Ang Teleserye” on ABS-CBN this Sunday (June 16), 10:15AM with replays at 11:30PM.

Jessy Mendiola Gears For New Soap after Budoy

Posted on February 17, 2012 | 8:00 AM

Kapamilya actress Jessy Mendiola revealed that she has a follow up project after her teleserye Budoy, which is now nearing its finale (read story here). The mestiza actress said in a press interview that she cannot reveal yet the cast or the story of her new series.

All the actress can say for now is that the cast will be big and that there will be someone who will 'return.' (Could this be a returning kapamilya from another network? It can also be from overseas or else, a big teleserye star will have her TV comeback, perhaps, Judy Ann Santos.)

Jessy also told the press that a new Jessy Mendiola will be seen in her upcoming teleserye, different in a sense that her role will not be tweetums and sweet but with a certain edge and sense of maturity. She also revealed that Gerald is not part and will not play as her love interest in the series.

Jessy will be part of an upcoming Star Cinema movie, The Reunion opposite Enrique Gil. Other Reunion cast members include Enchong Dee, Julia Montes, Xian Lim, Megan Young, Kean cipriano and Matt Evans.

Can Jessy Mendiola be the next Kristine Hermosa? The girl had gone a long way after her launching teleserye, Sabel opposite the late AJ Perez and Joseph Marco. It seems that ABS-CBN is gromming her to be the next top Kapamilya leading lady. Well, good for her. We can see that this girl really worked hard for her craft.

Drama Prince Gerald Anderson, who now sports a shaved-head look, continues to thank the loyal fans of their top-rating Primetime Bida drama series, “Budoy” through the “Be Budoy, Be Happy Mall Tour.”

After bonding recently with the Cebuanos and Caviteños, the “Budoy” cast is set to visit their fans in Laguna this Saturday (February 18), 5:30pm, at SM City San Pablo.
Meanwhile, Gerald’s new look has become an added attraction in the drama series. His character went bald in preparation for his medical operation. But now that he is ready to have his strange disease checked in the US, Budoy will be forced to stay as the Maniego family faces a criminal case that puts their credibility as doctors on the line. Is this the end of the Maniego family? How can Budoy (Anderson) solve all the problems his family is facing? Don’t dare miss “Budoy,” weeknights, after “E-Boy” on ABS-CBN.
